Dr. Fei Tong has over 20 years of engineering experience in both academia and industry. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Toronto, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Tsinghua University. Prior to his PhD, Dr. Tong worked with Ove Arup & Partners and Buro Happold Consulting Engineers in their offices at Beijing, Tokyo, and Dubai.

Dr. Tong’s research expertise lies in the areas of seismic resilience, earthquake engineering, and structural dynamics. His current research effort focuses on developing innovative concepts, systems, and strategies to achieve next-generation seismic resilient solutions for high-rise buildings and tall infrastructure. Aiming at real industrial applications, Dr. Tong is leading his research group to implement these research innovations through creative design, advanced numerical analysis, theoretical studies, and experimental validation.

While working in industry, Dr. Tong made significant contributions to a large number of world-renowned skyscraper and bridge projects that are located in earthquake-prone and typhoon-affected areas around the world. These projects are architecturally unconventional and engineeringly challenging, requiring state-of-the-art seismic design, large-scale experimental validation, and expert peer reviews. Dr. Tong has enriched experience of working with world-class architects, clients, specialists, contractors, quality surveyors, and government officials.
